What to read and what to do this weekend...
Greetings and salutations,
„Don't the hours grow shorter as the days go by?
We never get to stop and open our eyes

This stanza taken from the song „Lovers in a dangerous time“ by Bruce Cockburn just about sums up the sentiment with which I will go into the imminent weekend.
The week which is coming to a close was full of different events and news. If you – like me – haven’t found the time yet to read all the interesting things that have landed on your desk or in your mailbox I would like to point you in the direction of our English section, where you can find a wide variety of different topics.
In the past few days we covered subjects that range from the financial epicentre that Frankfurt is (or hopes to be) to ATM explosions as well as a Belgian cowboy right up to a shot of Tequila. And maybe – if you are as exhausted as I am from the last five days – you are pondering whether a four-day workweek might be the solution – and thus take a closer look at the continuing debate about this working hours scheme which is currently gaining momentum.
Or, if you are interested in sports you might want to find out, in what sense the ongoing Rugby World Cup is a stress test for the Olympic Games next year. And later on you might want to head to the Waldstadion on Sunday to see the football match between Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg, which has all the ingredients to turn into an interesting match, given that both teams know well enough how to handle the ball.
And if you are not born and bred in the Rhein-Main region but are inclined to learn more about customs and language here, you might want to check out a musical offering called “Welthits auf Hessisch”. And maybe you have been wondering all this time what Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, and Elvis Presley would sound like if they had sung in Hessian.
Well, I guess you probably haven't. Nonetheless the duo has taken on the linguistically challenging task of translating world hits of the last sixty years from English into Hessian, which they deem “the language of poetry and grace”. Among their vernacularised hits are ditties like Rihanna's “Reschescherm” or Britney Spears' “Schlaach misch, Mädsche, nochema”. The duo is performing in the Kulturhalle Waldems-Steinfischbach on Saturday and at the Weißes Ross in Kleinostheim on Sunday (both are less than an hour's drive away from the city centre of Frankfurt).
