LBBW poaches staff from Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe

LBBW has once again been recruiting from Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe. Guido Rohlfing switched from the private bank to the asset manager of the southern German state bank at the beginning of May, becoming its new Head of Investor Relations Private Markets. According to Linkedin, he held this position at Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe for around two and a half years.

Rohlfing is not the only Private Markets expert who has changed sides. In April, Patrick Geraats moved from the IR department at Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe to LBBW, along with an entire team. Leading the Private Markets division of LBBW's subsidiary is Alexander Stern.

Stern was previously the Managing Director of Kapital 1852, under which Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe's Private Markets division operates. This team also included Sebastian Wilde, who is now Co-Head of Private Equity at LBBW Asset Management. Lars Kuppe leads the venture capital business, while David Hansen heads the Private Debt & Infrastructure division. Additionally, Anja Nickel, the former Head of Private Markets Middle Office, also made the move.

At the end of March, LBBW announced the establishment of its own „Private Markets“ unit within Asset Management. In this context, the bank announced that a total of nine Private Markets specialists would be joining LBBW's Dusseldorf office from Hauck. In 2021, the bank had already transferred BW Equity to LBBW Asset Management.

„We see private markets as a growth area and have therefore made the expansion of alternative investments a strategic focus“, said Uwe Adamla, CEO of LBBW Asset Management. With the new setup, the bank aims to strengthen the asset classes of private equity, private debt, venture capital, and infrastructure.

Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe does not intend to pull back

In response to inquiries, Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe stated that its own Private Markets unit is currently undergoing personnel changes, but that these changes have no impact on the operational business or the products of the division. The business will be temporarily managed by Christian Schaumkell and Bernhard Renger.

Both are long standing executives in the Private Markets division, and have extensive experience, as well as investment, structuring, and consulting expertise in their respective asset classes. A long term succession plan will be implemented in an orderly and careful process. In addition, the individual teams will be strategically expanded with personnel in the future. Thus Kapital 1852 still has a professional and experienced team with established processes, allowing the business to continue without restriction. „The asset classes of Private Markets, consisting of private equity, private debt, and venture capital, are integral components of the asset allocation of wealthy clients, so that individual investment strategies in this area will continue to be offered unchanged", Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe stated.
