Roland Boekhout joins de Volksbank as CEO
Roland Boekhout has become the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and member of the Executive Board, at de Volksbank. The appointment was made by the Supervisory Board in consultation with majority shareholder NL Financial Investment. Boekhout succeeds Martijn Gribnau, who announced in December 2023 that he would not be available for a second term. The appointment was supported by the Works Council, and has been approved by the European Central Bank. Boekhout's term of office will run until the Annual General Meeting in 2028.
Career at ING Germany
Boekhout has worked in the international banking sector for more than 30 years, both in retail and corporate banking. After studying at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, he completed the general management programme at the INSEAD Business School in France.
He started his career at Unilever, from where he moved to ING as a Senior Credit Analyst in 1991. He held various positions, rising to Management Board level. From 2010 to 2017, Boekhout was CEO of ING Germany. His focus was on expanding the product portfolio and online and mobile banking offering, and positioning ING as a direct bank for retail customers. In 2017, he joined the Management Board Banking of ING Group, and was responsible for the banking business in the Benelux countries.
Stopover at Commerzbank
After leaving the ING Group, he became a member of the Management Board at Commerzbank. In this position, he was responsible for looking after corporate clients worldwide. The contract was terminated in 2020 „by mutual agreement“, as it was referred to at the time, due to differing positions on the future organisation of the corporate client business.
After his engagement at Commerzbank, Boekhout moved to Bain for around two years as an External Advisor. From October 2023, he worked as a Senior Advisor at McKinsey, from where he has moved to de Volksbank.
